בָּא לוֹ לְמִזְרַח הָעֲזָרָה, לִצְפוֹן הַמִּזְבֵּחַ, הַסְּגָן מִימִינוֹ וְרֹאשׁ בֵּית אָב מִשְּׂמֹאלוֹ. וְשָׁם שְׁנֵי שְׂעִירִים, וְקַלְפִּי הָיְתָה שָׁם וּבָהּ שְׁנֵי גוֹרָלוֹת. שֶׁל אֶשְׁכְּרוֹעַ הָיוּ, וַעֲשָׂאָן בֶּן גַּמְלָא שֶׁל זָהָב, וְהָיוּ מַזְכִּירִין אוֹתוֹ לְשָׁבַח:

Przybył na wschód od azary, na północ od ołtarza, z przybocznym arcykapłanem po jego prawej stronie i głową domu patriarchalnego po jego lewej stronie, i tam stały dwa kozy. [Bo nie wprowadzali kóz między Ulama i ołtarz, kiedy chcieli położyć na nich karty do głosowania; ale oni stali w azarze aż do czasu rzezi], a tam było kalpi [wydrążona drewniana skrzynia], aw niej dwie baloty z bukszpanu [szlachetnego drewna]; i Ben Gamla [Yehoshua ur. Gamla, gdy został mianowany arcykapłanem], zrobił je ze złota i otrzymał zaszczytne wyróżnienie.

Rebbi Jonah said, it is written¹⁰Is. 53:12. The verse continues: For he offered himself to death and counted the sinners. This applies to R. But some say, this refers to the men of the Great Assembly, who organized principles and details¹²They find in the work of the Great Assembly the essence of Second Temple and later rabbinic Judaism, the effort to turn the mostly disjointed statements of the Torah into a systematic code of laws..
