מֵאֵימָתַי הַפֵּרוֹת חַיָּבוֹת בַּמַּעַשְׂרוֹת. הַתְּאֵנִים, מִשֶּׁיַּבְחִילוּ. הָעֲנָבִים וְהָאֳבָשִׁים, מִשֶּׁהִבְאִישׁוּ. הָאוֹג וְהַתּוּתִים, מִשֶּׁיַּאְדִּימוּ. וְכָל הָאֲדֻמִּים, מִשֶּׁיַּאְדִּימוּ. הָרִמּוֹנִים, מִשֶּׁיִּמַּסּוּ. הַתְּמָרִים, מִשֶּׁיָּטִּילוּ שְׂאֹר. הָאֲפַרְסְקִים, מִשֶּׁיָּטִּילוּ גִידִים. הָאֱגוֹזִים, מִשֶּׁיַּעֲשׂוּ מְגוּרָה. רַבִּי יְהוּדָה אוֹמֵר, הָאֱגוֹזִים וְהַשְּׁקֵדִים, מִשֶּׁיַּעֲשׂוּ קְלִפָּה:

Da quando si richiede la decima dei frutti? Fichi da quando iniziano a maturare. Uva e uva passa, da quando il seme può essere visto attraverso la pelle. Sumac e fragole, da quando si sono arrossati. E tutto il rosso [frutto], da quando si sono arrossati. E i melograni, da quando [i loro semi] possono essere schiacciati. Date, da quando iniziano a gonfiarsi come il lievito. Pesche, da quando sviluppano [l'aspetto delle] vene. Noci, da quando diventano come un magazzino [per la carne di noci separata all'interno]. Il rabbino Yehudah dice, noci e mandorle, da quando sviluppano una buccia [interna].

Hazelnuts and peaches and astrobalin [are liable] from the time that their peel/shell forms. The nuts and the almonds from when they form "compartments." Rabbi Yehuda says, from the time that their peel/shell forms. They said this as to the inner peel/shell that is [directly] on top of the food (i.e., the nut itself). Nehorai ben Sonya says in the name of Rabbi Shimon, small apples are exempt and honey apples (="תפוחי נמלא", see Yer. Maasr. I.3.3, Guggenheimer tr.) are liable, whether large or small. Rabbi Yishmael bar Rabbi Yosei says in the name of his father, bitter almonds are liable, whether small or large. Sweet almonds [are liable] from when the outer shell is formed. Rabbi Yishmael exempts small cucumbers from the time that their skin grows smooth.
