כְּלָל אָמְרוּ בַּמַּעַשְׂרוֹת, כָּל שֶׁהוּא אֹכֶל, וְנִשְׁמָר, וְגִדּוּלָיו מִן הָאָרֶץ, חַיָּב בַּמַּעַשְׂרוֹת. וְעוֹד כְּלָל אַחֵר אָמְרוּ, כָּל שֶׁתְּחִלָּתוֹ אֹכֶל וְסוֹפוֹ אֹכֶל, אַף עַל פִּי שֶׁהוּא שׁוֹמְרוֹ לְהוֹסִיף אֹכֶל, חַיָּב קָטָן וְגָדוֹל. וְכָל שֶׁאֵין תְּחִלָּתוֹ אֹכֶל אֲבָל סוֹפוֹ אֹכֶל, אֵינוֹ חַיָּב עַד שֶׁיֵּעָשֶׂה אֹכֶל:
Dichiararono una regola riguardo alle decime: tutto ciò che è cibo, che è custodito e cresce dalla terra, richiede decime. E hanno affermato un'altra regola: tutto ciò che è nel suo inizio è cibo, e alla fine è cibo, anche se uno lo custodisce [e non lo raccoglie quando è piccolo] per aggiungere cibo, richiede la decima se è piccolo o grande. E tutto ciò che non è nel suo cibo iniziale, ma che è alla fine è cibo, non richiede decime finché non diventa cibo.
