הַנִּכְנָס לִכְרַךְ מִתְפַּלֵּל שְׁתַּיִם, אַחַת בִּכְנִיסָתוֹ וְאַחַת בִּיצִיאָתוֹ. בֶּן עַזַּאי אוֹמֵר, אַרְבַּע, שְׁתַּיִם בִּכְנִיסָתוֹ וּשְׁתַּיִם בִּיצִיאָתוֹ, וְנוֹתֵן הוֹדָאָה לְשֶׁעָבַר, וְצוֹעֵק לֶעָתִיד לָבֹא:

Chi entra in una città emette due preghiere, una all'entrata e una all'uscita. Ben Azzai dice: Quattro, due all'entrata e due all'uscita. [Quando sta per entrare dice: "... che tu mi porti in questa città in pace". Una volta entrato, dice: "Ti ringrazio per avermi condotto in questa città in pace"—due entrando. Quando sta per andarsene, dice: "... che tu mi porti da questa città in pace". Una volta che se ne è andato, dice: "Ti ringrazio per avermi guidato da questa città in pace".] E ringrazia per il passato e grida per il futuro. [Perché tutto questo? Perché uno deve ringraziare il suo Creatore per il bene che ha sperimentato e deve pregare per il bene in futuro.]

Tosefta Berakhot

The Beracha (blessing) of Zimun is from the Torah (i.e. a Torah obligation) as it is said, “And you should eat, and be satisfied, and bless…” (Deuteronomy 8:10), this is [a reference to] the Beracha of Zimun. “… Hashem, your God …” (Deuteronomy 8:10), this is [a reference to] the first Beracha [of Birkat Hamazon (Grace After Meals)]. “… for the land …” (Deuteronomy 8:10), this is [a reference to] the Beracha about the land (i.e. the second Beracha) [of Birkat Hamazon]. “… the good …” (Deuteronomy 8:10), this is [a reference to the Beracha about] Jerusalem (i.e. the third Beracha) [of Birkat Hamazon] as it is said “… this good mountain and Levanon.” (Deuteronomy 3:25). “… which He has given you.” (Deuteronomy 8:10), this is [a reference to the Beracha of] Hatov Vehameitiv (The Good and Who does good) (i.e. the fourth Beracha) [of Birkat Hamazon].
