חָבִית שֶׁנִּשְׁבְּרָה בַּגַּת הָעֶלְיוֹנָה, וְהַתַּחְתּוֹנָה טְמֵאָה, מוֹדֶה רַבִּי אֱלִיעֶזֶר וְרַבִּי יְהוֹשֻׁעַ, שֶׁאִם יְכוֹלִים לְהַצִּיל מִמֶּנָּה רְבִיעִית בְּטָהֳרָה, יַצִּיל. וְאִם לָאו, רַבִּי אֱלִיעֶזֶר אוֹמֵר, תֵּרֵד וְתִטַּמֵּא, וְאַל יְטַמְּאֶנָּה בְיָדָיו:
Uma embarcação [de Terumah ] que foi quebrada na cuba superior [de uma prensa de vinho] e a cuba inferior estava impura: o rabino Eliezer e o rabino Yehoshua concordam que se alguém pode salvar pelo menos uma unidade específica de volume Revi'it ] em pureza, deve-se salvá-lo. Mas se não: o rabino Eliezer diz: deixe fluir e se torne impuro [por vontade própria], e não o contamine com suas próprias mãos.
Tosefta Terumot
A jar that broke in the lower winepress, and the upper winepress [contains] impure [wine], all agree that it should flow down and create medumma [on its own accord], and not to make it medumma with his own hands. [Note: The GR"A, following Ter. 8:9, switches "upper" and "lower," and replaces "medumma" with "impure."]
