חָבִית שֶׁנִּשְׁבְּרָה בַּגַּת הָעֶלְיוֹנָה, וְהַתַּחְתּוֹנָה טְמֵאָה, מוֹדֶה רַבִּי אֱלִיעֶזֶר וְרַבִּי יְהוֹשֻׁעַ, שֶׁאִם יְכוֹלִים לְהַצִּיל מִמֶּנָּה רְבִיעִית בְּטָהֳרָה, יַצִּיל. וְאִם לָאו, רַבִּי אֱלִיעֶזֶר אוֹמֵר, תֵּרֵד וְתִטַּמֵּא, וְאַל יְטַמְּאֶנָּה בְיָדָיו:
Una nave [di Terumah ] che era rotta nella vasca superiore [di un torchio] e la vasca inferiore era impura: il rabbino Eliezer e il rabbino Yehoshua concordano sul fatto che se si può salvare almeno un Revi'it [unità specifica di volume ] in purezza, si dovrebbe salvarlo. Ma se no: il rabbino Eliezer dice: lascia che scorra verso il basso e diventi impuro [di per sé], e non lasciarlo contaminare con le sue stesse mani.
Tosefta Terumot
A jar that broke in the lower winepress, and the upper winepress [contains] impure [wine], all agree that it should flow down and create medumma [on its own accord], and not to make it medumma with his own hands. [Note: The GR"A, following Ter. 8:9, switches "upper" and "lower," and replaces "medumma" with "impure."]
