מִי שֶׁהָלַךְ לִמְדִינַת הַיָּם וְעָמַד אֶחָד וּפִרְנֵס אֶת אִשְׁתּוֹ, חָנָן אוֹמֵר, אִבֵּד אֶת מְעוֹתָיו. נֶחְלְקוּ עָלָיו בְּנֵי כֹהֲנִים גְּדוֹלִים וְאָמְרוּ, יִשָּׁבַע כַּמָּה הוֹצִיא וְיִטֹּל. אָמַר רַבִּי דוֹסָא בֶן הַרְכִּינָס כְּדִבְרֵיהֶם. אָמַר רַבָּן יוֹחָנָן בֶּן זַכַּאי, יָפֶה אָמַר חָנָן, הִנִּיחַ מְעוֹתָיו עַל קֶרֶן הַצְּבִי:
Wenn ein Mann ins Ausland ging und einer aufstand und seine Frau fütterte, sagt Chanan: Er hat sein Geld verloren. [Denn er (der Ehemann) sagt: Ich habe dir nicht gesagt: Leih mir und ich werde dich zurückzahlen. Aber wenn er der Frau Geld für ihr Essen geliehen hat, unter der Bedingung, dass sie ihn zurückzahlt, fordert er es von ihr, und sie fordert es von ihrem Ehemann, und er zahlt. Und wenn der Ehemann behauptet: Ich habe ihr Essen verlassen, und sie bestreitet es und möchte es ihm (Bezahlung) entziehen, schwört der Ehemann einen Gerechtigkeitseid (Shevuath zögert) und befreit sich selbst, und das Geld (verliehen ihr) ist a Schulden, die zu begleichen sind, wenn sie verwitwet oder geschieden ist.] Die Söhne der Hohepriester unterschieden sich mit ihm und sagten: Er (der Kreditgeber) schwört, wie viel er geliehen hat, und er nimmt es (als Bezahlung). R. Dossa b. Harkinas regierte in Übereinstimmung mit ihnen. R. Yochanan b. Zakkai sagte: Chanan sagte gut. Er (der Kreditgeber) legte sein Geld auf "das Horn eines Hirsches".
