בָּרִאשׁוֹנָה, כָּל מִי שֶׁיּוֹדֵעַ לִקְרוֹת, קוֹרֵא. וְכָל מִי שֶׁאֵינוֹ יוֹדֵעַ לִקְרוֹת, מַקְרִין אוֹתוֹ. נִמְנְעוּ מִלְּהָבִיא, הִתְקִינוּ שֶׁיְּהוּ מַקְרִין אֶת מִי שֶׁיּוֹדֵעַ וְאֶת מִי שֶׁאֵינוֹ יוֹדֵעַ:

All'inizio, chiunque sapesse leggere avrebbe letto e chiunque altro l'avrebbe letto per lui. [Poi,] le persone erano reticenti da portare e dichiararono che sarebbe stato letto per coloro che sanno leggere e per quelli che non lo sanno.
