אָמַר לִשְׁנַיִם, מַשְׁבִּיעַ אֲנִי עֲלֵיכֶם אִישׁ פְּלוֹנִי וּפְלוֹנִי, שֶׁאִם אַתֶּם יוֹדְעִין לִי עֵדוּת שֶׁתָּבֹאוּ וּתְעִידוּנִי, שְׁבוּעָה שֶׁאֵין אָנוּ יוֹדְעִין לְךָ עֵדוּת, וְהֵם יוֹדְעִין לוֹ עֵדוּת עֵד מִפִּי עֵד אוֹ שֶׁהָיָה אֶחָד מֵהֶן קָרוֹב אוֹ פָסוּל, הֲרֵי אֵלּוּ פְטוּרִין:

Si él dijo a dos: "Te vestí a ti y a ti, si conoces mi testimonio, vienes y testificas por mí". (Ellos :) "Juramos que no sabemos testimonio para usted"— y saben testimonio de él, un testigo por medio de otro — o si uno de ellos fuera pariente o pasul (no apto para testificar) —No son responsables. [Porque si testificaran, su testimonio no serviría de nada.]
