אֵין בָּאֲרֻבּוֹת פּוֹתֵחַ טֶפַח, טֻמְאָה בַבַּיִת, כְּנֶגֶד אֲרֻבּוֹת טָהוֹר. טֻמְאָה כְנֶגֶד אֲרֻבּוֹת, הַבַּיִת טָהוֹר. הַטֻּמְאָה בַבַּיִת, נָתַן בֵּין דָּבָר שֶׁהוּא מְקַבֵּל טֻמְאָה, בֵּין דָּבָר שֶׁאֵינוֹ מְקַבֵּל טֻמְאָה, בֵּין מִלְמַעְלָן בֵּין מִלְּמַטָּן, אֵין טָמֵא אֶלָּא הַתַּחְתּוֹן. הַטֻּמְאָה כְנֶגֶד אֲרֻבּוֹת, נָתַן דָּבָר שֶׁהוּא מְקַבֵּל טֻמְאָה, בֵּין מִלְמַעְלָן בֵּין מִלְּמַטָּן, הַכֹּל טָמֵא. וְדָבָר שֶׁאֵינוֹ מְקַבֵּל טֻמְאָה, בֵּין מִלְמַעְלָן בֵּין מִלְּמַטָּן, אֵין טָמֵא אֶלָּא תַחְתּוֹן:

If there is not a handbreadth's space in the hatches, if there is impurity in the house, opposite the hatches is pure. If there is impurity opposite the hatches, the house is pure. If the impurity is in the house and he put something that is susceptible to impurity or something that is not susceptible to impurity, whether above or below, only the lower one is impure. If the impurity is opposite the hatches, and he put something that is susceptible to impurity, whether above or below, everything is impure.
