מַרְחִיקִין אֶת הַמִּשְׁרָה מִן הַיָּרָק, וְאֶת הַכְּרֵשִׁין מִן הַבְּצָלִים, וְאֶת הַחַרְדָּל מִן הַדְּבוֹרִים. רַבִּי יוֹסֵי מַתִּיר בַּחַרְדָּל:
Un mishrah [un luogo in cui il lino è imbevuto, che rovina le verdure che gli sono vicine] viene allontanato dalle verdure e i porri (vengono allontanati) dalle cipolle, [i porri sono dannosi per le cipolle che sono vicino a loro] e la senape (viene allontanata) dalle api, [senape che rovina il miele e lo rende affilato]. R. Yossi lo permette con la senape, [perché può dirgli: "Prima che tu mi dica di rimuovere la mia senape dalle tue api, rimuovi le tue api dalla mia senape! Perché vengono e mangiano i miei fiori di senape!" L'halachah è conforme a R. Yossi.]

A pool for soaking flax must be distanced from vegetables, and leeks from onions, and mustard plant from bees. Rabbi Yose permits mustard plant. This simple mishnah lists things that will spoil other things if kept near them and therefore must be distanced from them. [Note: part of the processing of flax, a major material for clothing, was soaking it in water].
