מַרְחִיקִין אֶת הָאִילָן מִן הָעִיר עֶשְׂרִים וְחָמֵשׁ אַמָּה, וּבְחָרוּב וּבְשִׁקְמָה חֲמִשִּׁים אַמָּה. אַבָּא שָׁאוּל אוֹמֵר, כָּל אִילַן סְרָק, חֲמִשִּׁים אַמָּה. אִם הָעִיר קָדְמָה, קוֹצֵץ וְאֵינוֹ נוֹתֵן דָּמִים. וְאִם הָאִילָן קָדַם, קוֹצֵץ וְנוֹתֵן דָּמִים. סָפֵק זֶה קָדַם, סָפֵק זֶה קָדַם, קוֹצֵץ וְאֵינוֹ נוֹתֵן דָּמִים:
Un arbre est éloigné de vingt-cinq coudées d'une ville, [une place ouverte devant une ville rehaussant son apparence.] Et avec une caroube et un sycomore, cinquante coudées, [leur feuillage étant épais]. Abba Saul dit: Avec tout arbre stérile, [qui nuit à l'apparence de la ville], cinquante coudées. Si la ville était la première, il [le propriétaire de la ville] la coupe et ne compense pas (le propriétaire de l'arbre); et si l'arbre était le premier, il le coupe et compense. En cas de doute (ce qui est venu en premier), il le coupe et ne compense pas. [Car comme il doit être abattu, peu importe ce qui est venu en premier, après avoir été abattu, son propriétaire est dit: "Prouvez qu'il était là en premier et vous serez payé."]

Rabban Gamliel76Rabban Gamliel of Jabneh, speaking of the family of Hillel. said, in my father’s house they used to give one peah for the olive trees they had in every direction77Four peot for all olive trees in all four main directions. and for all carobs that saw one another. Rebbi Eleazar ben Rebbi Ẓadoq said in the former’s name: also for all carob trees they had in the entire town.
