מַרְחִיקִין אֶת הַמִּשְׁרָה מִן הַיָּרָק, וְאֶת הַכְּרֵשִׁין מִן הַבְּצָלִים, וְאֶת הַחַרְדָּל מִן הַדְּבוֹרִים. רַבִּי יוֹסֵי מַתִּיר בַּחַרְדָּל:
Una mishrah [un lugar donde se empapa el lino, que estropea las verduras que están cerca de él] está distanciada de las verduras, y los puerros (están distanciados) de las cebollas, [los puerros son dañinos para las cebollas que están cerca de ellos], y la mostaza (está distanciada) de las abejas, [la mostaza estropea la miel y la hace afilada]. R. Yossi lo permite con mostaza, [porque puede decirle: "Antes de que me digas que quite mi mostaza de tus abejas, ¡quita tus abejas de mi mostaza! ¡Porque vienen y se comen mis flores de mostaza!" La halajá está de acuerdo con R. Yossi.]

This simple mishnah lists things that will spoil other things if kept near them and therefore must be distanced from them. [Note: part of the processing of flax, a major material for clothing, was soaking it in water].
