הָיְתָה גְבוֹהָה מִן הָאָרֶץ טֶפַח, טֻמְאָה תַחְתֶּיהָ אוֹ עַל גַּבָּהּ, הַכֹּל טָמֵא, אֶלָּא תוֹכָהּ. בְּתוֹכָהּ, הַכֹּל טָמֵא. בַּמֶּה דְבָרִים אֲמוּרִים, בִּזְמַן שֶׁהִיא כֶלִי. הָיְתָה פְחוּתָה וּפְקוּקָה בְקַשׁ, אוֹ מַחֲזֶקֶת אַרְבָּעִים סְאָה, כְּדִבְרֵי חֲכָמִים, כַּזַּיִת מִן הַמֵּת נָתוּן תַּחְתֶּיהָ, כְּנֶגְדּוֹ עַד הַתְּהוֹם טָמֵא. עַל גַּבָּהּ, כְּנֶגְדּוֹ עַד הָרָקִיעַ, טָמֵא. בְּתוֹכָהּ, אֵין טָמֵא אֶלָּא תוֹכָהּ. הָיְתָה גְבוֹהָה מִן הָאָרֶץ טֶפַח, טֻמְאָה תַחְתֶּיהָ, טָמֵא. בְּתוֹכָהּ, תּוֹכָהּ טָמֵא. עַל גַּבָּהּ, כְּנֶגְדּוֹ עַד הָרָקִיעַ טָמֵא:

If it was a hand-breadth above the ground and there was impurity beneath or on top of it, everything is impure except for its inside. [If it was] inside it, everything is impure. When is this case? When it is a vessel. But if it was broken and plugged with straw or if it holds forty <i>Se'ah</i> according to the Sages, if a [piece the size of an] olive of a dead body is placed beneath it, opposite it down to the depths is impure. If it is on top of it, opposite it up to the firmament is impure. Inside it, only the inside is impure. If it was a hand-breadth above the ground, if the impurity was beneath it, [everything] underneath it is impure. If it was inside it, [everything] inside it is impure. If it were on top of it opposite it up to the firmament is impure.
